My upstairs computer is on the fritz, so I've not been able to get pictures on here lately. So tonight, I'll leave you with some words. Words that have been funny lately... words from my 2 year old.
Yesterday, I was putting in my contacts and Boaz started his typical string of a million words. It went something like this... Are those your contacts, Mommy? You putting the contacts on? You wear those so you can see all better? You putting them on your gumballs? (of course he meant eyeballs) :)
A few nights ago, Boaz was supposed to be in bed and I heard noise coming from his room. I opened the door to find him in the middle of his room with clothes strung out on his floor. He frantically said "I just want to change my clothes, Mommy! I just want to wear superman today!" He had turned on the lamp and decided to change his pajamas- of course he needed to wear superman pj's to bed!! I laughed and put him back into bed. So hard to punish them when they're so cute!!
The next night, we heard some noise again. Luke opened the door and started laughing. Boaz had told us he went pee in his diaper earlier, but we made him stay in it. (he often does this at night to convince us to let him out of bed for a bit) Luke went in to find him with his diaper off and trying to put his superman pants back on. He had both legs in one hole of the pants and was waddling around the room. Luke picked him up and brought him out to the living room so I could get in on the laughs also. It was pretty funny.
Lately, Boaz ends his sentences with today or already. "I just did it already." "I just put my shoes on today." (he also uses the word 'just' a lot!)

My mom came to watch him on Friday for awhile and told me an awesome story. They were praying before lunch and afterward she was saying something about it being good to thank God for things. Boaz told her that Jesus was in heaven with God. And then he told her that Jesus was in his heart. I love watching him try to comprehend the basics of our faith!
A couple days ago we were out at Grandma & Grandpa Bartlett's house. I wish I could remember what story he was trying to tell Gma, but I can't. They were sitting on the steps and he was telling her all about something he had done or seen. Then all of a sudden he stopped and was thinking and thinking... and then said "oh, I just can't say the word." Like he knew what he wanted to tell her, but couldn't think of what word he would use to say it. It was so hilarious.
I wish I could just turn on a camera and catch his constant chatter. I don't want to forget his cute squeaky voice and his barage of questions and stories!!

The Faith of a Child...
5/27 - I've been a bit absent in my blogging lately... lots going on and a lot on my mind. Just felt like sharing a few thoughts tonight.
Many of you know about and have been following the story of Ben Ricketts this past week and a half. Thanks so much to all of you who prayed and prayed for him and his family. For those of you who aren't aware- Ben's parents found him unconscious and tangled up in a blind cord last Sunday. He was in intensive care for over a week and passed away on Tuesday night.
It was such a sad sad week. BUT- I've seen some amazing things amidst the tragedy. Ben's facebook page has over 49,000 followers who were/are praying for them His CaringBridge site has over 171,000 hits. I'd encourage you all to go to the CaringBridge site and read the entries Dave has posted this past week. It has been amazing to read about his faith and to hear him say "God is Good" even when it'd be so easy to hate God for the situation. And here's another blog you must read- written by their pastor who walked with them through this time.
This week, of course, reminded me not to take any moment for granted. In light of these events, I hugged my boys a little tighter, extended playtime (and ignored the house!), cuddled a little longer, and giggled a little more. I'm thankful for every single moment I have with my precious family.
But Ben, Dave & Steph have inspired me in several other ways this week as well... First of all, I was in their home for a short while helping out with a few things on Friday. The first thing I noticed was the scripture pasted all around their home... at the kitchen sink, on the fridge, and literally written on the walls! I want my home to be like that- one that scripture permeates. One that exemplifies this verse- Deuteronomy 6:4-9.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [a] 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
They've also inspired me in that their faith has been so visible to so many! They've used this situation to help others see Jesus... and have prayed for other people during this as well!! It'd be so easy to draw in and think only of yourself. They've done the oposite and used this to minister to others. I can only hope that in a trial I can push through it with such faith, grace, compassion, and dignity.
I'm also seeing how important living in community is. People have been rallying around this family and I hope they feel loved. I've been thinking alot about the friends and family we're surrounded with and I know that they'd drop everything in a heartbeat to help us as well. We are so blessed with people to walk through life with. Praise God for the body of Christ and for our amazing family & friends.
They've also inspired me to ramp up my prayer life again. Now, it wasn't horrible before this, but I really do want my days to be spent in constant prayer and communication with God. This past week, Boaz and I prayed and prayed for our friend Ben. So much so, that he often would stop playing and ask to pray. That's completely how our days should operate, even if no emergency situation is going on. I hope that we'll continue to pray that much from here on.
Boaz is learning to pray on his own and it's been an honor to watch him pray for little Ben. His prayer was always the same... "Dear God, Please get help Ben's owies get all better. And help Daddy's owie get better. Amen." (Dad has a softball sliding injury currently!) We'd talk about Ben alot and he'd ask where Ben was. I'd reply, "In the hospital trying to get all better." After Ben passed, I knew that I'd have to answer that question differently for Boaz. How do you explain death to a 2 year old??
We were in the car on the way to Menards yesterday when the moment came. Our conversation went like this ::
Boaz- Where Ben go, Mommy?
Me- He's in heaven now, Boaz.
B- Ben's owies get all better?
M- Yep, Boaz. His owies got all better and he's going to be really happy in heaven.
B- YEEEAAAAHHH!!! (an elated hooray from the backseat)
B- Ben is in heaven, mommy?
M- Yep- he's in heaven with God & Jesus.
B- YEEAAAAHHHH!!! That's really nice!
By this time I was weeping in the front seat. Oh to be so elated... In the midst of my extreme sadness, I need to remember the exciting part of this story. Thank you Boaz for reminding me of the promise of a better life to come. That we can rejoice that Ben is in heaven with no pain and great joy. Oh to have the faith of a child in life's ups and downs....

10 Years at Papa Murphy's!!
5/12 - Luke celebrated his 10 year anniversary at Papa Murphy's today! I found these funny pizza Food Pyramid tshirts a few weeks ago and got them for the boys. We did a little photoshoot in hopes that I would surprise Luke with something fun for his anniversary. I got the pictures taken, but never got a gift made. Ooops. 
Daddy- We're proud of you and appreciate how hard you work to support our family!! WE LOVE YOU!!!
Here's a picture of our friends Emerson & Rowan. They invited us over to their house for a going-away party. Their family lives up the street from us and are good friends. We're sad to see them move away, but will definitely have to go visit them in the Twin Cities soon! 
We are so blessed by our neighbors!! Here's Boaz with his friend, Teagan. Secretly, I think these two will get married someday! :) She's such a sweetheart... and I sure wouldn't mind having my friend Colleen for an inlaw! :)

The girls all looked so sweet in their dresses. 
They served cupcakes and ice cream at the party. And when there is cake & ice cream, that means it's a birthday party, right? Boaz kept singing 'Happy Birthday' during the party and it made all the girls giggle. Then he liked the attention and kept singing it louder and louder. :) I managed to catch a couple seconds of it on video... wish I had captured more of him hamming it up.

5/6 - "I want to take a rest!" This is a phrase I hear at least once a day lately. A few weeks ago Boaz cracked his head really hard and I told him I'd have him take a rest on the couch with an icepack. Ever since then, if he's hurt or upset he cries and asks to take a rest. He'll lay down on the couch and often ask for an icepack. I bring him this tiny thing from the freezer and it seems to help. (He's often done with his rest in about 1 minute, then back up playing!!) 
Pretty pathetic, huh? :)
5/6- I gave Boaz another haircut tonight. He still hates haircuts. This time I let him turn it on by himself and let him feel it on his arm, etc. He still wasn't too thrilled with the process. He really hates the feel of the hair on him afterward. I suggested that he go run around outside to shake off all clippings. He and daddy ended up having a fun game of football in the backyard. Cainan and I had fun watching them play from the back porch. There's almost nothing that makes me happier than watching Luke play with his boys!!

5/5 - It's official... Cainan is eating baby food! We started him on rice cereal about a week before his 6 month mark. Boaz recently helped me make a batch of fruit & veggies for him to get started on. We made apples, pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash. So far, Cainan loves every single one of them! 
Boaz really really wanted to eat all the apples, so he had one he munched on while we cooked. I loved how his apple looked like swiss cheese as the morning wore on. 
Cainan woke up from his nap and joined in on the cooking fun. 
He enjoyed watching the action and also enjoyed his first experience with his fruit net. I stuck a piece of banana inside and he was busy eating on that for probably an hour!!

Boaz hasn't been too keen on noises lately, but if I let him help me turn on the noise, he seems a bit more calm about it. He actually enjoyed using the food processor this time around!
A few months ago, I was getting the big mixer out of the closet to do some baking. I made some comment like "Man, this thing is a monster!" Of course meaning that it was really heavy. However, Boaz now thinks that the mixer is indeed called a monster. It's pretty hilarious. Everytime I say that it's time to use the mixer he says "No, it's a monster!" See video below....
Oooooh, Riiight!! (He says this when I tell him the name of something, or explain a new fact- like he knew that already!)
I love _____ (fill in the blank with anything!) Lately, he's been telling me that he loves things. And it will be the funniest little things that he thinks he loves. Tonight (5/17) when I was singing him his bedtime songs, I asked him what song he wanted and he made up a strange word. He often does this and I have to make up a song about the item or weird word he chooses. (I'm pretty good at this!) Tonight's word was something like 'Tohk." It reminded me of a call that the lead drummer would call out when I took an African drumming class at UNI. So I sang out the call "Tohk Deng Di Deng Tohk. Deh Di Deh Gah Gi Deh Gee. Crack! Crack! Gah Gi Deh Gee. Deh Deh Deh. Gah Gi Deh Gee Deh GA!" I finished singing the call and he looked at me and said, "I Loooove that song, Mommy!!!" We sang it 4 more times before I tucked him in! :)

A Windy Day...
5/1- May 1st was a nice windy day. Boaz spent some time walking around in my shoes this morning. 
After we got him dressed for the day, he and daddy headed out to do some kite flying!!

Boaz picked this kite out at Walmart a few weeks ago and was very excited for us to have a nice day to try it out. He likes it a lot because it has a robot on it!

Boaz and Daddy hunting down the kite... They walked all over the neighborhood looking for it. They finally discovered it hanging from a gutter in someone's backyard. In Boaz's words... "We go dingdong! Doggy was sleeping. We wake up the doggy!!" They rang the doorbell to see if anyone was home, but no such luck. So they went thru the fence to the backyard (where they woke up the dog!) and got the kite down... had to cut the string, so some neighbors still have a kite handle stuck to their gutter! Sorry!! We're looking forward to some more kite flying soon... but this time might rig up a wrist strap for Boaz so it doesn't fly away!

Shape Belt
4/28 - Today was project day!! I stole this idea from my sister, Katie. Boaz really enjoys the show Team UmiZoomi. Here the boys are watching it....
One of the characters has a shape belt that he wears. He uses the shapes on his belt to build things that help solve problems. We decided that Boaz needed his very own shape belt. He told me what shapes to draw on the paper and then he very meticulously colored them in. 
Mom cut out the shapes. Then Boaz decided what order he wanted to place them on the belt.

He wears this thing all the time. Any, time we watch the show he has to have it on. And various other times he like to wear it around also! It was fun to do a special project with Boaz!!

Recent Happenings...
5/7 - Boaz helped me make bath salts for Grandma Glace for Mother's Day. The Glace Grandparents came for a visit on Thursday and got here around 11am. Boaz carried these bath salts around all morning before they got here... "I give this to Grandma Glace and say 'Happy Mother's Day!' I got this present for Grandma Glace!" He was pretty proud of his present and card. (He opened Grandma's card a few times for her before she got here.

5/4 - Boaz proud to wear Daddy's softball shirt... We've taken the boys out to one game so far and they did really well. He enjoys cheering (really loudly!) for his daddy! 
4/29 - Cainan helping us cook lunch...
4/28 - Boaz's creativity impresses me lately. A while back these toys became entirely different objects. The measuring tape and ball toy are both fishing poles, while the basketball hoop is a butterfly net. He spends lots of time fishing from his pretend boat in the living room and chasing butterflies and bugs around the house. (We recently ran around after a horsefly that made it's way into our home, so he recreates that scene often!)
4/27 - Boaz has a keen eye. He sees things that we never would in a million years. We were getting around for bed the other night and Luke was watching American Pickers. Boaz walked through the room and started yelling "That's Mickey on there!!!" Seriously- this shot was on for no more than 5 seconds... can you see Mickey on here?? We had to rewind and pause ithe TV so we could take a picture of how hilarious it was that he spotted Mickey. The kid is amazing.
4/28 - 4/30 :: Boaz is learning to pedal a trike!! (though he insists it's called a bike!!) Check out these videos of our little man pedaling down the sidewalk! He's getting really good at it and since these videos has been going on some really long rides. I'm excited for the warm weather to stick around so he can really start cruising.

Mother's Day
I didn't get any pictures of me and the boys today... bummer! But I wanted to write about the day before I forget!! Luke let me pretty much decide everything we did this weekend! Yesterday (Saturday) I got a shower right away in the morning!! (some of you moms understand what a feat this is!) Then I drug him around to a couple sales in Hudson, Target, a shop downtown, etc.
We dropped the boys off with Grandpa for an hour while we went looking around... mission accomplished- we got a little bike with training wheels for Boaz for next summer!! Think we'll give it to him for his birthday next year. Who knows if he'll be able to use it yet, but we were excited about our find. Luke put the bike in the back of my SUV for the ride home. I didn't realize he had it standing up in the back and Boaz could see it. (we were going to make it a surprise!) We started driving home and hear "Hey- what's that back there? A bike? What is that?" Over and over... he wouldn't stop asking about the metal handlebars that were sticking up. We laughed so hard. I told him it was just some metal with rubber circles. :) Everytime we turned a corner that bike would bump around and it'd start the whole conversation over. It was hilarious. I laughed until I cried.
The boys took amazing naps yesterday- so did mom & dad! Then it was kind of a cruddy night so we had movie night with Boaz... (Stewart Little 2 again). Then we had movie night for mom & dad after they went to bed!
Today (Mother's Day) Luke got up with Boaz at 6:50 and let me SLEEP IN until Cainan woke up... which was 7:05. :) I did still stay in bed for a few minutes after that and enjoyed some peaceful time getting ready for church while he took care of breakfast/diaper duty. While I laid in bed, Boaz came in to surprise me with his gift. He tip-toed to my bedside and then loudly proclaimed "Happy Mother's Day!!!!" That little man's voice just melts my heart. Daddy had put a picture of the boys that said Happy Mother's Day on it in a frame and had written me a card from the boys as well. It was sweet. We headed to church, then out to Luke's parents to have lunch with them, uncle Justin, and Luke's grandparents. We came home for naps, but the boys didn't cooperate. Everyone napped but me... but I didn't mind. I had some sweet laughs with Cainan- we don't get that one-on-one time much. Then I didn't have to cook dinner either... Luke took the family out for dinner at one of our favorite mexican restaurants here in town- Las Margaritas. We hadn't been out to eat for a long time, so enjoyed the family outing. Boaz & I shared a meal- he devoured rice/beans, chicken, mushrooms, etc. He LOVED it!! Cainan was such a good boy- he's at the stage where he is entertained by toys now- makes outings a little easier! After dinner we came home and walked down the sidewalk while Boaz rode his trike. Then it was bedtime for the boys and we sat around reading the paper and catching up on our DVR stuff.
It was a wonderful weekend with my amazing family. As I tucked each boy in bed tonight I almost wept with joy- I can't believe how much God has blessed me. Thanks Luke & boys for everything... I love you with all my heart. I'm blessed to be called 'mom' in this house.
We dropped the boys off with Grandpa for an hour while we went looking around... mission accomplished- we got a little bike with training wheels for Boaz for next summer!! Think we'll give it to him for his birthday next year. Who knows if he'll be able to use it yet, but we were excited about our find. Luke put the bike in the back of my SUV for the ride home. I didn't realize he had it standing up in the back and Boaz could see it. (we were going to make it a surprise!) We started driving home and hear "Hey- what's that back there? A bike? What is that?" Over and over... he wouldn't stop asking about the metal handlebars that were sticking up. We laughed so hard. I told him it was just some metal with rubber circles. :) Everytime we turned a corner that bike would bump around and it'd start the whole conversation over. It was hilarious. I laughed until I cried.
The boys took amazing naps yesterday- so did mom & dad! Then it was kind of a cruddy night so we had movie night with Boaz... (Stewart Little 2 again). Then we had movie night for mom & dad after they went to bed!

Cinco de Mayo!
5/5 - Just a few memories of the day. I told Boaz that today was Cinco de Mayo and he loved talking about it all day. He had no idea what it meant, but he did enjoy eating his meals in tortillas all day!! :) (chicken wrap for lunch and enchiladas for dinner) This afternoon his imagination was running wild... we ran from alligators swimming in the living room, rowed our boats with cardboard tubes, took a train ride, saw giants and bunnies out the window, opened pretent presents he bought at the store (always a basketball), etc. I love to listen to his mind work... yep- I listen to his mind work b/c he talks nonstop about everything he's thinking! My favorite was when he was scooting around on his car and asked me to open the front door. I asked him why and he told me he was going to drive to St. Louis. :)
Cainan had a great day today, also. The last 3 days he seems to have gotten so much more involved with life around here. He thinks Boaz and Ozzie are hilarious. Today he laughed and laughed- almost to the point of not being able to catch his breath- at Boaz throwing a toy tiger on the floor and fake laughing. Boaz repeated this over and over to get Cainan riled up. It was precious. And a milestone for Cainan today... I'm going to officially say that he started sitting on his own today!!! It's not 100% and it's not for minutes at a time, but he's doing it for short stints before he wobbles over. I think today's record was about 2 minutes!! It's fun to watch him growing up and joining in the family fun.
